Hi, We’re QLL!

Hello, world! We’re QLL!

QLL (pronounced like ‘quill’) stands for Queer Liberation Library. We’re an upcoming digital library founded by queer people for queer people. It’s our goal to put LGBTQ+ books and resources into the hands of queer people across the United States through digital access.

What we want to do is create a library that queer and trans people across the United States can access through their personal devices – phones, tablets, laptops, personal computers, etc. We want to make these resources more privately accessible while also building a queer community space online for LGBTQ+ people of all ages. Queer space are few and far between, and for various reasons, lots of our queer community don’t feel safe or comfortable expressing themselves as such in public spaces. We want to remove that barrier. You won’t need to go up to the LGBTQ+ shelf at your local library if doing so will out you. You won’t need to rely on ever-dwindling public library budgets, the political climate surrounding book bans and queer stories, and the uncertainty of whether your local library spends that budget on queer books and materials. Use your local library, please! But if you aren’t able to get the kinds of access to materials there that you want, we’re here for you.

We have tons of plans for next steps and future goals, but for now, the main goal is just getting off the ground. There’s a lot more that goes into creating a brand new library than you might think! Especially a completely digital one! We will need to make a plan for funding and budgeting before we’re able to offer the resources we want to provide, and we are currently in the process of looking for non-profit status and/or sponsorship. At some point in the future, we’ll be asking for your support if you’d like to see this idea become a reality, but for now the best way you can help us get started is to follow us and share us with your friends and family!
