February Newsletter
Hail and well-met, queer travelers!
February is turning to March and spring is on its way, and the team at QLL have some updates for you. First and foremost, February was a very big month at the Queer Liberation Library because we had a HUGE patron surge in the first half of the month! Welcome to all of our new members, and happy queer reading to you all!
With that sudden surge, we had to do a bit of maintenance and management behind the scenes because the holds lines got much longer very quickly. The first thing we did to manage this was buy more books, which will continue to be the main strategy, but there are other things we’ve done to try to keep wait lines shorter. We switched the maximum number of holds each patron can place at a time from 7 holds to 5 holds. If you had 7 holds, you are still in line for those 7 books, but you won’t be able to place any new holds until you go beneath that 5 hold threshold.
If you're running into a lot of long holds lines, check out our list of books that are available now! No lines for any of the titles in that list!
Upcoming exciting things! Women’s History Month begins on Friday March 1st! We’ll have some curated lists of books by and about women for you early in the month, so keep your eyes peeled. It’s girl dinner, but for readers!
The other fun thing happening in March is our Second Annual March Madness bracket! Last year we had such a great time with the March Madness bracket, and we’re pumped to do it again this year. You can still nominate a title for consideration in the bracket by leaving a comment on any of our social platforms about it for another day. Nominations close on March 1st. The voting for the bracket itself will take place on Instagram in the second half of March.
Finally, I’d like to take a moment to say that we at QLL are heartbroken about the death of Nex Benedict in Oklahoma. This kind of hateful violence is devastatingly common against queer people, against Indigenous people, against gender non-comforming youth. We must come together as a community to support each other, because isolation and individualism will not stop this kind of violence. All queer kids should get to become adults. Our hearts go out to Nex’s friends and family as they suffer this tragic loss.
We’ll be back to talk again next month. Take care of yourselves, and know we’re in this with you.
