March Newsletter

Happy spring, library lovers! 🌷

March has been a topsy-turvy crazy month over here, with so much still going on as we close it out! Our first big mention for this month is that we hit and surpassed 40,000 members of the Queer Liberation Library! Your interest and excitement in our library has made this little operation grow enormously in such a short period of time, and it’s showing everyone how important and necessary a resource like this is. Thank you so much for joining in on the queer book fun!

What’s Been Up
The Trans Rights Readathon has been going on since March 22nd and will continue through March 29th! There’s still time to get a few trans books in before the readathon ends on Friday night. The library was also featured in an article on News Is Out! You can read the article here, written by Dana Piccoli.

And the BIGGEST thing we’ve got going on this month… is our second annual MARCH MADNESS QUEER BOOK BRACKET! The voting has been intense over on Instagram as the queer books duke it out for the ultimate prize: bragging rights. There’s one round left: the final match up is the Lavender Menace Conference Champion Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree against the U-Haul Conference Winner Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. It’s going be a fantastical final round. Head over to our Instagram on Thursday, March 28th, to vote for your favorite!

What’s Coming Next?
With the end of March upon us, it means it’s almost time for Trans Day of Visibility. It’s a strange and uncomfortable time to be visibly trans in many places in the country, so don’t worry if you don’t feel like celebrating. (You can always celebrate Trans Day of Staying In And Having A Nice Snack instead.) Take care of yourself first, trans siblings. QLL will be making trans writers and trans voices seen and heard in the meantime! You can keep an eye out for a list of trans-authored books to celebrate Being Perceived Day at home in your PJs.

We’ve got some fun plans coming up in April, too! April is Arab-American Heritage Month, so we’re planning to have some new lists up with stories about queer Arab experiences for you to enjoy. April is also National Poetry Month, so it’s the perfect time to pick up a collection of queer poems. We'll have some suggestions ready for you early on in April.

**Note: This blog post was edited to correct an error. It initially stated that April is AAPI month, and this was corrected to state that April is Arab-American Heritage Month.
